Math Trails are a great way for students to get outside of the classroom where they can see and apply the mathematical concepts they are studying to real world situations.

This concept was first developed by Australian educator Dudley Blane and further expanded by Presidential Award winner Kay Toliver. The idea is to have the children split up into groups with a designated photographer, manager, recorder and other brainstormers who then set out within their community to create their very own math trail. Throughout their chosen route the students will come up with their own math problems and solutions in relation to what they see around them.
